When you think of young body builders most often what comes to mind is the ground work being laid for a great physique in years to come. well it would seem the new genre of young bodybuilders are to impatient to wait for the fruits to bear from the hard yards of years of work and judicious eating, rather they would appear to have jumped straight on the roid wagon.The new era of bodybuilding would seem to have dawned junior competitors climbing on stage with physiques that would rival many of those elite athletes from time gone by.Is the dawn or the sunset for body building when our youth soak their internal organs in excessively dangerous and toxic levels of anabolic substances in the pursuit of a gold plated plastic trophy.

Bloated Guts and Overblown Organs

Without naming names because we know how sensitive these guys are to any suggestion they are doing it with drugs they also believe they know their bodies and the amount of juice they can do without deleterious effects.Yes these guys are sensitive to constructive criticism but also naive,the cemetery is full of guys that slipped this mortal coil much to young all because they kidded themselves they new what they were doing . The most tell tail sign these guys are heavy on the juice is the distended abdomens, steroids are not specific to your skeletal muscle they also enlarge your internal organs.Relaxing in between abb poses usually presents like sack of shit hanging over your trunks.

Phenomenal physique or freak!!!

I have seen come and seen them go those that take the short cuts either end up disillusioned or dead.Cycling on and off the gear for most is psychology nightmare, most of us take up body building for a reason and most often if we were sat on a couch and questioned by a shrink they would probably conclude we have some deep seated issues.Its unfortunate that wisdom only comes with age and the young Universe competitors climbing onto the dais full of more than just hubris if their fortunate enough may live to get wisdom and see the folly of their way.For some the epitaph may read "Here lies Junior Mr Universe he had a great physique but died before experiencing life"

Arnie may have failed to terminate Sarah Connor but it would appear he has successfully done so to Shriver, so what's the deal after 25 years and time in office she seems to have overstayed her welcome or he his.Can Schwarzenegger pull off another terminator movie at 63 years of age? I'm thinking the cyborg is going to be due for a exoskeleton make over.

THe last time i saw photo's of the big guy was floating in a pool in Hawaii,and it wasn't pretty.Its not fare to say that he didn't look like the cyborg he was in the late 80's because lets face it none of us do.But i would think he had let himself go to seed, family pressure of office and a penchant for good food,a recipe for midsection disaster.

People can be cruel and there's nothing i would imagine worse than ageing on the silver screen in front of your fans.Harrison Ford proved in his latest addition to the Indiana Jones series that age does weary them.He should have changed the temple of doom to the temple  with too many stairs, its embarrassing to see ageing stars unable to let go of their fame and an inability to evolve.

On the hand Hollywood may be able to use special effects and Arnie performance enhancing pharmacopoeia and who knows maybe he can pull it off.One things for sure Shriver "He won't be bark" 

Fitness has nothing to do with health

 
 
Once again the fitness circus has come town and any one that is any one with half a physique is strutting their stuff. Darling harbour Sydney Australia is the venue and the first day was trade only which i managed to bullshit my way in(well i am part of the industry even if only reluctantly) every year without fail the show goes on and the stalls seem to only have grown since my last visit about 4 years ago.

Boring as bat shit

As i walked into the conference centre i soon realised nothing had changed since my last visit other than there seemed to be more buffed dudes and girls than you could poke a protein bar at. The show was supposed to be on the stage but all around the circus was in full swing, we had the lady with the muscles, and the one with the least amount of clothes socially accepted, then we had the guys. It seemed at every counter spruiking the benefits of eating protein there was some massive dude giving us the idea that his physique was the product of hard training and supplements. Yea right! The guy on one stand was a broad as he was tall 5 foot wide and five foot tall, a virtual block of protein.

The products

I have to say that i don’t think o have ever seen so many ways to get fir ,pumped, buffed, bulked and ripped under one roof. There was an elastic bands (Theraband’s) machine that looked something from terminator, Matts and balls of every size if it was to do with fitness it was under this roof and had a price tag on it.     

Fitness and health a far removed

Although the premise for this self indulgent fitness fest was supposed to be about health i don’t think anything could have been further from the truth, it was an atmosphere permeated with testosterone one and narcissism. If all the products and knowledge were doing good then why do have the majority of people getting fatter and the minority more consumed with self.

And i have to also say i haven’t seen so many Brazilian’s and none of them from Brazil!

 

PT's a little knowledge can be dangerous

 
I often hear personal trainers spruiking their knowledge about how to eat, how to train and basically how to live, for some reason beyond comprehension they have elevated themselves to all things under the umbrella of PT. Now not trying to undermine their ability but for most they really need to understand that 6 weeks of training either by correspondence or face to face does not make you the all seeing all knowing guru on the mountain.

Get a grip

I was training at the gym one day and this personal trainer came up to me and asked “that exercise you’re doing what is it for” “Ahh! It’s called lateral raises it’s for your deltoids, shoulders, you know the things you hang your coat on!” now come on guys here we have a bloke that is out there advising the uneducated how to do weights, how to eat, and how to live. The problem with the shake bake style of education these days is that there is money in them hills and people are flocking to the profession (for want of a better word) for the life style and the money.

Know your limitations

If you have a trainer don’t rely on them for nutritional advice , they will probably give you the usual menu of low fat, low carbohydrate ,high protein iced with the maxim eat big train big to get big! There are to many PT out there and you could probably count the good ones on one hand, if they spend more than 5 minutes talking about themselves or spend more time looking in the mirror than they do at you then you’re probably got one of these know it alls.

The real deal

If you want the best from yourself and your trainer make sure they stick to what they know which is most often lifting weights and holding your drink bottle while you do your cardio, if you need nutritional advice get it from a professional or a trainer with the relevant qualifications. And for god’s sake don’t believe everything they tell you because more than likely the information isn’t from a qualified professional knowledge base.

The Next Generation of Porkers

 

Well its common knowledge that collectively we are getting fatter, people are doing less yet eating more or at the least eating food that is more energy dense.Fast food is the whipping boy but our  inability to address our burgeoning waist lines is the real culprit.

From where i stand i find it hard
to understand why for most it takes a near death experience to make people wake up and smell the roses.To use an overworked cliche "it ain't rocket science"

Its my philosophy that if you want to eat,then  exercise, if you don't  want to exercise,don't, ' eat, well not as much .Your Basal metabolic rate is enough to keep the calories ticking over its when you start to overload and overindulge the trouble and the fat sets in.

So whats the most effective way to lose excess weight? physical activity of course! walk to work leave the car in the driveway , go to the gym for lunch, there are so many ways to burn energy its just about setting your mind to the task and sticking it with it. I eat what i want when i want but i train religiously, the higher proportions of muscle you have the more calories you burn calories without lifting a finger.

So its a catch 22 , you need to increase muscle mass to burn calories more effectively, if your fat, your body is a sluggish furnace that smolders rather than rages.So get active and don't become a statistic for 2011.

If you’re into body building or even just trying to turn back the clock it’s most likely you would have heardthat human growth hormone is a drug that will build muscle reduce fat and reducing the effects of ageing. Well the old adage “if it sounds to good to be true then it probably is” and in the case of HGH new revelations have identified that there is reason for concern some of those that used HGH for dwarfism are now dying from cardio vascular disease (CVD).

HGH produced in the pituitary gland

The master endocrine gland is the pituitary gland it’s about the size of a pea and is situated in the base of the  brain where it happily all things working well , pumps out a number of hormones, one of those hormones being HGH. HGH has became infamous for its abuse amongst body builders and sports people alike, and later on as youth drug provided to well heeled patients at anti-ageing clinics.

If your 4 foot you may have a reason to use it

HGH was synthesised from the natural occurring hormone produced in our pituitary gland, in the early eighties HGH was sourced from cadavers (dead bodies) that what up until there was serious concern that many of those using the hormone were at an increased risk of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease(CJD), or mad cow disease as it was commonly called. To circumvent cross infection synthetic hormone was produced, and from then on it went from helping those suffering short stature (Idiopathic growth hormone deficiency) to dispense with their platform shoes, and opened the flood gates for illegitimate use.  

New study finds short term benefit long term risk

A new study highlighted by the FDA found that there was increased risk of bone tumours and cardiovascular disease or intracerebral haemorrhage. It was concluded that the increased risk was not greater than the derived benefit to those medically requiring HGH. The risks are increased once the recommended dosage is exceeded; presently the approved amount is 0.48 mg/pweek. Now if you are a body builder and taking exogenic hormones ais part of your BB regime, the chances are you are exceeding the recommendation, hence at a further risk of developing a life threatening problem.

Forget the short cuts and just do the hard yards

Unless you’re at an increased risk of ending up helping Santa make toys, I wouldn’t be bothering to take something that is going to increase the risk of dying. Too many guys pumping iron to look good at the beach or on stage are looking at the short term (sorry it just keeps popping up) picture rather than the long term. If you want to be the best you can think 20, 30 years down the track and you just may get to leave a good looking corpse.

Megan Fox we’re told is dieting her way to a serious health issue, she is purportedly eating erratically swinging from one diet regime to the next endeavouring to keep her svelte figure without the need to exercise, apparently she’s to lazy for that.

And that’s supposed to be a deterrent

If you can believe everything you read and i suggest quite vigorously that you cannot, then Megan Fox isn’t only chopping and changing from one diet to the next she is putting herself at increased risk of health disorders. But if magazines are proffering this story up to readers in hope to dissuade others from following, then Fox’s body is going to put paid to that argument.

Detoxing her way to ill health

Does detoxing have risks, and further more does it even work? There are plenty of experts out there that would say yes! Although I’m not to sure there are many professionals that would agree. Detoxing is really the realm of medicine quackery, mainstream medicine tends to poo poo the whole idea that drinking just juice or vinegar for a week could reduce the toxins within your system. I tend to agree the best detoxing factory is  the liver, it processes all the shit you put through your system and does it without so much as a whimper, well most often that is, NYE probably put many livers under enormous strain.

Is Fox’s body the product of Detoxing?

It’s highly unlikely that Fox’s body  is the result of detoxing or lack of physical activity , looking at her taught athletic body i would have serious reservations of anyone that said it was the result of diet and not a intense fitness regime. It’s unfortunate that the focus is on the  detox rather than her surreptitious training regime, leading young women to detox rather than  train their little arses off (or big whatever the case may be).And the question that has been posed to many is, has Megan Fox lost to much weigh and his her body skinny rather than toned? I think not, they say a picture is a thousand words so let the picture do the talking. Me thinks red hot!But she could definitely lose the tramp stamp.

Here’s a guy that plays soccer for a living and moonlights for Armani modelling their latest jeans and apparel, the last time the promo was shown in the gym where i train i couldn’t help but notice the people watching in between sets weren’t the girls but the guys. As the music started and the add began to unfold when the house maid notices Ronaldo looking for his shirt whilst wondering around the hotel room while she is cleaning and decides to hide the shirt noticed one guy wonder in front of the TV to watch the show unfold. It’s not hard to understand the attraction to Christiano's physique; it’s believable and well proportioned without being overly muscle bound.

What women want?

So is the sleek muscled body of Christiano Ronaldo what women want it would seem anecdotally the guys like it. There’s little point being overly muscle bound clothes don’t fit your head doesn’t fit and in lot of instances the muscle is functional. So what’s all the fanfare about Beckham? The guy arrives in OZ looking like a bedraggled old vagrant, unshaven skinny gaunt and pale. Beckham's celebrity status would seem to be without reproach, rather than stop and question why he receives so much adulation the public just continue to fawn over every breath that he and his toothpick wife take.

Aussies are the world’s worriers when it comes to cancer

 
It would seem that a global poll has identified that Australians are the biggest worriers when it comes to cancer.  And why wouldn’t we be? Just look at the amount of exposure Cancer gets in the press on the radio and the TV it would appear if you could believe all you hear and see that we are doomed ,destine to become victims of the big C . Bowel , skin ,breast cancer are all on the rise and coming to breast tissue near you, men haven’t escaped the cancer message either prostate cancer is killing us in our droves and there’s no end in sight (no pun intended)or so they would have you believe. But is it really all gloom and doom are we at greater risk than others around the globe? I think not.

Ribbons are ubiquitous

Everywhere you look someone is wearing a ribbon, a pink ribbon for breast cancer a red ribbon for AIDS and now we are growing moes for prostate cancer. we are being overwhelmed with negative messages, it’s as if our lifestyles are inextricably tied to cancer, going out into the sun carries with it an increased risk of melanoma and other lesser cancers, we spent so much time slip, slop, slapping that we now have a population that are deficient in vitamin D. Vitamin D deficiency is itself linked to many illnesses and cancers and has been directly attributed to MS and some other neurological illness.

Pink is the new black

Pink has become so synonymous with breast cancer whenever we see it we automatically think of bald women with cancer, you can’t even open a bottle of water without being reminded. Our environment is permeated with negative messages it’s that a constant bombardment that is creating collective anxiety, we have become the victims of our own negative health campaigns we have become a nation of hypochondriacs.
